Origins of football in Ancient China

In Ancient China, around 3000 BC, the Chinese military practiced a game that was actually a military training. After the wars, they formed teams to kick the heads of the enemy soldiers. Over time, the heads of the enemies were being replaced by leather balls coated with hair.

Two teams were formed with eight players and the goal was to pass the ball from person to person without letting it fall to the ground, leading it into two stakes pitched in the field. These stakes were connected by a wire of wax.

Football comes to England

Researchers concluded that football came to England around the 17th century.

In England, the game won different rules and was organized and systematized. The field should measure 120 by 180.00 m and at the two ends would be installed two rectangular arcs called beacon. The ball was leather and filled with air. With clear and objective rules, football began to be practiced by students and children of the English nobility. Gradually became popular.

In the year 1848, at a conference in Cambridge, a single code of rules for football was established.

In the year 1871 was created the figure of the goalkeeper who would be the only one who could put his hands on the ball and should be close to the goal to avoid the entrance of the ball.

In 1875, the time rule of 90 minutes was established and in 1891 the penalty was established, to punish the foul within the area.

Professionalism in football began only in 1885 and the following year the International Board, the organization whose main purpose was to establish and change the rules of football if it were necessary, was set up in England.

In the year 1897, an English football team called Corinthian made an excursion outside Europe, helping to spread football in different parts of the world.

In 1888, the Football League was founded with the purpose of organizing international tournaments and championships.
