Main tube inspection

Description of work

Stripped riser joint of all buoyancy and auxiliary lines and jewellery.

Removed seal sub and all riser bolts and nuts.

1. Inspected the riser box connector at each end of the main tube plus any welds around the tube in addition to the flange attachment welds and repaired as necessary.

2. Cleaned the inside of the box thoroughly with solvent and fresh water.

3. Inspected inside the RF riser connector for damage to the sealing area and

the running tool lock-ring groove area. Remove any small burrs using

#150 emery cloth.( see separate fig showing brinel points)

4. Used dye penetrant testing method and inspected for cracks in the area shown in the following figure. ( The main tube welds were x-rayed; not dye pen tested)

5. Ground out any suspect cracks to determine the depth of the crack.

[pic 9]

6. Cracks greater than.030" (0.76 mm) in depth repaired using Cameron welding specifications

7. Cracks less that .030" (0.76 mm) in depth were not weld-repaired. Blended the ground-out area into the original surface.

8. Lightly coated all internal surfaces and components with a water-resistant

mineral grease.

9. Inspected the seal sub for any signs of damage. Removed any burrs near

the seal groove area using #150 emery cloth.

10. Lightly greased the seals and the grooves with a water-resistant mineral

grease and installed new seals on the seal sub.

11 All main tube welds were x-rayed and films coded and cross referenced to this document.
