Grammar 5- There to BE (Present/Past)

A expressão verbal formada pela palavra there + verbo to be conjugado tem o mesmo significado que o verbo “haver” (ou “ter”, no sentido de existir). Portanto quando o falante quiser dar a idéia de indicar a “existência” de alguém ou de alguma coisa, faz-se o uso do THERE TO BE. Abaixo segue a estrutura dele:

Quando estiver afirmando em inglês, o falante usa:

Present Past Future

Singular There is or There’s There was There will be or There`ll be

Plural There are There were There will be or There`ll be

Quando estiver negando em inglês, o falante usa:

Present Past Future

Singular There is not or There isn´t There was not or There wasn´t There will not be

There won´t be

Plural There are There were There will not be or

There won´t be

Quando estiver interrogando em inglês, o falante usa:

Present Past Future

Singular Is there ? Was there ? Will be there ?

Plural Are there ? Were there Will be there?

Alguns exemplos práticos do uso desse conhecimento:

There is a cat on the roof. (Há um gato no telhado.)

There’s a hole in the street. (Há um buraco na rua.)

There isn’t anyone at the museum. (Não há ninguém no museu.)

There are computers in that room. (Há computadores naquela sala.)

There are seven billion people living on this planet. (Há sete bilhões de pessoas vivendo neste planeta.)

There are not buttons on my shirt. (Não há botões na minha camisa.)

There aren’t cockroaches in the kitchen. (Não há baratas na cozinha.)

There was a man who lived in that castle. (Havia um homem que morava naquele castelo.)

There was a feeling of humiliation floating in the air. (Havia um sentimento de humilhação flutuando no ar.)
