Verbs

To mix, mixed: to combine or blend into one mass.

Ex: Mix the eggs into the flour.

To deceive, deceived: to cause to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid.

Ex: Bluffing at poker in order to deceive the other players.

To publish, published: to disseminate to the public.

Ex: The university press publishes academic titles.

 

To illustrate, illustrated: to draw pictures for a book, magazine, etc.

Ex: Illustrate a book.

Vocabulary

Lettuce: a plant with large, green leaves, eaten uncooked in salads.

Ex: I like a little lettuce and tomato on my sandwiches.

Tomato: a round, red fruit with a lot of seeds, eaten cooked or uncooked as a vegetable.

Ex: A sliced tomato.

Cabbage: a large, round vegetable with large green, white, or purple leaves that can be eaten cooked or uncooked.

Ex: A savoy cabbage.

Carrot: a long pointed orange root eaten as a vegetable.

Ex: We had carrot and coriander soup for lunch.

Beet: a plant with a thick root, often fed to animals or used to make sugar.

Ex: Nitrogen is especially beneficial to beets.

Eggplant: an oval, purple vegetable that is white inside and is usually eaten cooked.

Ex: Do not add salt, as it (pois) causes eggplants to turn dark.

Garlic: a plant of the onion family that has a strong taste and smell and is used in cooking to add flavour.

Ex: A garlic bulb.

Zucchini: a long, thin vegetable with a dark green skin. It is a type of small marrow.

Ex: He doesn’t like zucchini.

Green beans: a type of long, green bean that you can eat.

Ex: Many vegetables are botanical fruits, including tomato, green bean and zucchini.

Radish: a small vegetable, usually red or white and round or shaped like a finger, that grows underground and is usually eaten uncooked in salads.

Ex: In this view, the property shared by radishes, tomatoes, and traffic lights is a physical property. (q?!)

Onion: a plant with a round, edible root having a strong smell and flavor.

Ex: The recipe calls for chopped (cebola) onions.

Seasoning: a substance, especially salt or pepper, that is added to food to improve its flavour.

Ex: Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt or pepper as desired.

Celery: a vegetable with long, thin, whitish or pale green stems that can be eaten uncooked or cooked.

Ex: A stick (pau) of celery.

Kale: a type of cabbage with green or purple tightly curled leaves.

Ex: Other crops grown include sorghum, beans, kale and tomato.

Green pepper: a shiny, green vegetable with a hollow centre. Green peppers can be eaten uncooked or cooked.

Ex: Other ingredients are mild (suaves) onions, scallions, parsley, and usually green pepper.

Peas: a round, green seed, several of which grow in a pod, eaten as a vegetable.
