The problem:

William Jewell College has a considerable number of international students and national students from far states that don't have a car on their own. Often they feel bad and frustrated because they don't have a way to move around the city, or they don't have someone to take them to Walmart, Target, or even KC to know the city or hang out with people away from school.

The idea:

Create a car share system among students who have cars on campus and connect them, through an smartphone app, to the people who doesn't have cars so they can have a ride (one way or round trip). The idea is to motivate people who have cars to enter their trip info if they are going to go out sometime in the future so people who need a ride are aware that they are going to go out to somewhere so they can contact them and make an agreement on their fees and times (depending if the ride provider wants to charge for gas or if he or she only wants company).

The solution:

The smartphone app that is going to be the bridge of communication between the ride provider and the person who needs the ride. People who download the app will experience a text-alarm system so they can know that someone has upload a trip. They will know that someone is leaving sooner or later and they can make the first contact with them. The app could contain a distance measure.

Other problems of consideration:

Times of people. Not all the ride providers can provide an specific time of traveling. Some will be leaving in 10 minutes others immediately or in 3 hours etc. The person who needs the ride will have to accept the times of the ride provider (if he needs the ride).

Ride back. Often times there will be situations where the ride provider can't give a ride back or the times of both don't match (considerably long time).

Accidents. The "Jewell Ride" company will not be liable of any damage in case of accidents because the users are not considerate as employees.

Solution to the ride back problem:

In case that the ride provider can't give the ride back and if the person who need it is not able to find another way to go back to Jewell, The "Jewell Ride" company will have a service of emergency riders (Jewell students who sign up as a Jewell Angel) where they will pick the person up with a special charge fee. So in this case this service will have to be use as a "last resource" option to avoid extra fees. (Like an Uber).

The benefits:

A way of knowing new people and new places.

A way of having and providing rides.

A way of save money on gas or earn extra money.

A way of get out of campus.

Avoid frustration.

Friendly and cooperative environment.

A way of communication between the Jewell community.
