Criteria for the evaluation of technological features in ESL/EFL software

Questions

1. Ease of use:

The perceived facility with which a user interacts with a multimedia program. The meaning of icons and symbols should be easy to understand and remember. Options, choices, and menus have to be easily found. Instructions should be helpful.

The page has several tabs that, when clicked, take us to all the features and divisions that the site offers. The supports and questions presented are clear and not too long, which allows for easier analysis. Below we have the vocabulary section that offers extra resources in understanding the heard/studied text.

2. Media integration:

How well an interactive program combines different media to produce an effective whole. It also deals with whether or not the various media components are necessary to the function of the program.

First, there is information that the page is archived and is no longer updated. I believe this demonstrates the delay in it in terms of media integration. All sound features are only available for download, which makes it difficult to interact and easily access the audio on the website, even with features such as slower or faster speed. There are not many animation resources and suggestions for materials, videos and news that contextualize the subject of the lesson. Finally, activities should be interactive, quiz, games. In the section “Grammar, Vocabulary & Pronunciation” most modules have only text and audio, there are no images.

3. Screen design:

The quality and design of: text, icons, graphics, color, and other visual aspects of interactive programs.

There is an organization of the screens. The sections are well divided and this division allows the user to browse the subjects that call his attention or that he seeks to study. The graphics are not up to date and with that there is no interaction and therefore the memorization of information is not so easy.

4. Navigation:

Ability to move through the contents of an interactive program in an intentional manner. An important aspect of navigation is orientation, i.e., the degree to which a user feels that he/she knows where he/she is in the program and how to go to another part of it. A good approach to navigation is the WIMP (window-icons -mouse-pointing) interface.

The features that the site offers all appear in the sidebar while viewing the activity. The bad thing is that video/audio requires downloading and so the user needs to switch windows on the computer to keep up with the media and text on the site. The help function it has is the vocabulary that is underneath the activity. So, don't be able to consult other sources while studying the lesson.
